To far away? Here
are some pointers that we often give out when customers come in.
Most Common
Questions
The
most common question we get is how do you determine the right
foundation make-up shade. We always start with the
right lighting. What is your lighting where you apply makeup?
Yellow, Pink, Blue? We suggest blue lights. This is true day
light. How can you get true day light? Just change out your light
bulbs and your on your way. Now your own your way to choosing the
right foundation makeup. It's best to shop where you can try
samples or testers. Shopping at drug stores or big grocery store
chains do not offer you the same flexibility - nor do they come
with professional guidance. That's why you should make Natural
Solutions - Holistic Beauty, Body & Bath your beauty headquarters.
What we do first is determine if you should wear liquid, cream or
powder based on your skin tone, coverage wanted and life style.
Then we would take three shades of that type of make-up and swipe
the side of your cheek with it to determine which would be best
suited for your tone. If the color is to light, it will look milky
or chalky. If the color is to dark, you'll see it darker than your
skin tone for sure. If it is right, you shouldn't be able to see
it as it will blend into your skin like it's your own. Watch for
undertones such as red or yellow. How can you tell which is your
undertone? Take a white piece of paper and put your arm over it
under a natural day light or window. If you have more yellow
showing up on your skin your warm. If you have more red or pink,
your more cool shade. If it's a half and half, you could be a
neutral. The foundations you swipe should be either a red/pink
(cool) or yellow/gold (warm) shade based on this test. We have
many brands to choose from, including Bare Minerals. Check our
retail site for others if your wanting one
now.
We often have
customers ask how should they apply the product. You can use your
fingers and dab the color over the face, then blending it well.
You can also apply the color with a sponge. If using a sponge,
make sure you rinse it well. Bacteria from the sponge can be a bad
thing for all natural products. It can also encourage acne skin
for those who suffer from skin problems.
Should make-up be
applied to the neck? Not necessarily. This is totally unnecessary,
not to mention expensive. In the past, it was a common practice
however. Woman had no choices in foundation, and they had to make
their neck blend in with their face. Not anymore. I think we have
more choices in natural foundations then they had then!
Once you have
determined the right shade, we'd suggest removing it and starting
with a clean face. What should be in every women's arsenal of
beauty products? Primer of course. What is primer? Primer is
what you apply to your face like an artist would apply to a blank
canvas. It primes the skin for what's next. It's job is to help
your makeup stay put. How many of you have spent lots of money on
your beauty products and half way thru the day the makeup is on
your cell phone? Your eye makeup is under your eyes! Your lipstick
is on your sandwich! Natural Solutions - Holistic Beauty, Body &
Bath would suggest using a good primer before all of that to keep
it there - like a makeup girdle! We have many brands to choose
from, including Bare Minerals. Check our retail site for others if
your wanting one
now.
Now that you've
primed, go ahead and apply your foundation. What's next?
Setting the foundation with a finish powder will mattify the
look and blend it all together. We suggest finding a translucent
shade if your skin tone is light to medium. If your tone is
darker, then we'd suggest getting a finish powder that is somewhat
darker so it does not lighten your skin and make your appearance
whitish. We have many brands to choose from, including Bare
Minerals Mineral Veil. Check our retail site for others if your
wanting one
now.
Your now ready to
glam up. What are some common questions concerning colour
application?
How do I decide
what eye look is best for me? There are two things to consider
as far as your eyes are concerned. One is their placement, and the
other has to do with the eyelids themselves. Evaluate your eyes
from both perspectives. Then decide which, if either,
characteristic predominates. Certain eye makeup techniques will
draw attention to the placement of your eyes, while others will
minimize it. It all depends on how you want to look. The second
thing you need to consider is your eyelid. Since that's where most
of the color goes, it's really a question of how much or how
little of your eyelid shows when your eyes are open. Prominent, or
very noticeable, lids are the extreme on one end of the spectrum;
hooded (or hidden) lids, on the other end. When our professional
stylists do make-up artistry here at Natural Solutions, they
consider these things before applying. So when you purchase a
basic makeup application or a bridal makeup application, know
their skilled and not just a Mary Kay girl. Our top make-up artist
here is Brandy Deporras. To learn more about her,

It's good to start
with a base shade on the eye. The purpose of this color is to add
highlights to the brow bone and the lid - the two areas that
"catch light." However, this color also does more. It acts like a
foundation - to smooth and add a good finish. Eye shadows that are
slightly lighter than your skin tone will look the most
believable, and there are plenty to choose from. Experiment with
many, especially if your used to just choosing an off-white one.
After the base
color, you'll want to choose a contour color. It should be dark
enough to look like a shadow - noticeable, not obvious. For a
natural look, choose colors such as brown, taupe, beige and
off-whites. To add a smoky look to it, use smoky, neutral shades
such as slate, charcoal gray, and off-whites such as moonstone.
Applying it to the crease often gives depth, but watch how far in
you apply as someone with near set eyes may end up having their
eyes look even closer. We have many brands to choose from,
including Bare Minerals Mineral. Check our retail site for others
if your wanting one
now.
Sometimes customers
wonder if they can use eye shadow powders wet? Yes you can. For
smooth application of wet eye shadow, dampen the brush, mix
with the shadow and brush on color as desired. The wetter the
brush, the softer the effect. After applying each shade, blend
well using a blending brush. This same procedure works especially
well when you apply shadow wet as an eyeliner. Follow the same
procedures using an eyeliner brush.
What are the
different type of eye shapes and what is Natural Solutions
suggestions on how to apply eye make-up:
AVERAGE EYES
They are the width of one eye apart. The lids are well
proportioned; the distance between the lash line and crease just
above the pupil is about one-third the distance between the lash
line and brow. If your eyes fit this description, you have all
sorts of flexibility.
WIDE SET EYES
They are more than the width of an eye apart. This characteristic
is fairly easy to spot, but if you want to be sure, measure the
space between your tear ducts. If it's more than 3cm, your eyes
are wide set.
CLOSE SET EYES
These eyes are less than the width of one eye apart.
DEEP SET EYES
These eyes have a recessed appearance - there's a fairly
noticeable shadow, or pocket, on the inside corners of your eyes
or a recess below the brow bone.
PROMINENT LIDS
These are very noticeable. When the eyes themselves protrude, the
lids can take an almost heavy appearance. Prominent eyelids are
also characteristic of some deep set eyes.
HOODED LIDS
These are ones where the skin from above the crease droops over
the crease and hides the eyelid.
ORIENTAL EYES
These eyes appear as though they have little or no eyelids - at
least not when the eyes are open. The brow bone also tends to be
flat, giving this area extra prominence.
We have many
customers who wear glasses. You may wear them too. So is there a
different way to apply eye make-up on those who do wear eye
glasses? Yes there is. If your glasses come down over your
cheekbones, try adding a thicker line to your lashes and try 2
coats of mascara, not one. That should help balance it out.
Now that you have
your eyes brightened, what about using eye liners. Some have a
hard time using pencils. Is there another way you can achieve
the same effect? Sure. I often tell my clients that you can add
color and definition to eyes by using an eye shadow as a liner.
You can dampen a small, flat eye shadow applicator, dip it into
the product or swipe it over it, then brush it on in short,
feathery strokes as close to the lash line as possible. You can
also do the same thing using it dry. You can soften the look with
a cotton swab or blending brush. The more water you use however,
the softer the look. We have many brands to choose from, including
Bare Minerals. Check our retail site for others if your wanting
one
now.
How do you avoid Raccoon Eyes with your liners? Good
question. Use a light touch when combining light eye makeup
colors with darker ones, and always blend. What about avoiding
a thick eye line? When lining and defining, stay as close to
your lash line as possible, and then be sure to soften the line.
You can use a sponge tip applicator or cotton swab to help. Don't
press to firmly as you line. Sharpen the pencil if you think it
needs it, to get close up. Today we have liquid eye liners, oil
based eye liners gels, waterbased eyeliner gels, and eye liner
pencils. There are so many types, that most can find the right
product just for them. Using the right applicator brush is also
important to achieve the look you want. There are bent eye liner
brushes, angled eyeliner brushes, precision eye liner brushes, and
even brushes that come with products. We have many brands to
choose from, including Bare Minerals. Check our retail site for
others if your wanting one
now.
Afraid to use
mascara? Don't be. Here is a tip for you. Don't hold the wand
stationary when applying mascara. Instead, roll it along your
lashes from the roots to the tips, to deposit the mascara evenly
and help prevent clumping. To remove smudges, wind a piece of
tissue tightly and hold it under your lower lashes while applying
your mascara. Or you can use a cotton swab dipped in eye makeup
remover to remove smudges. To stretch your mascara out and prevent
drying, don't dip the mascara wand unnecessarily into the tube.
You also want to avoid pumping the wand; instead, always twist to
coat. Remove mascara and all other eye makeup before going to bed.
Use your eye makeup remover, gently massage a small amount over
your lid and lashes. Wait about 30 seconds, then gently whisk off
eye makeup using a cotton ball. If using our liquid makeup
remover, apply it with a cotton ball. For extra lush-looking
lashes, apply two coats of mascara. Use an eyelash comb to
separate lashes after each coat. But what if your complaint is
that your lashes clump when you use mascara? Use a fine-toothed
eyelash comb to separate lashes before your mascara has a chance
to dry. Are your lashes short? Sometimes when I want to make my
lashes appear longer, I'll use a brown/sable color first, then tip
the lashes with black. We have many brands to choose from,
including Bare Minerals. Check our retail site for others if your
wanting one
now.
